Seniors do not need government price controls that inflate their cost of living | Opinion

For Oklahoma’s seniors living on fixed incomes, every dollar counts. Rising costs for groceries, gas, and prescriptions are not just frustrating — they are life-altering. That is why I am speaking out in support of Senate Bill 638, a commonsense effort to repeal an outdated state law that is quietly adding costs to the daily lives of our most vulnerable citizens.
SB 638 would end a government-mandated markup that has been in place since 1949. This law requires retailers in Oklahoma to increase the price of essential goods — including groceries and gasoline — by at least 6%, even when market conditions do not require it. It is essentially a hidden tax baked into the cost of everyday necessities.
