Fox 25: 'A drop in price': State senator aims to end 6% hidden tax on groceries, gas in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — An Oklahoma lawmaker is working to get rid of a hidden tax on gas and groceries, which has been around since 1949.

State Senator Julie Daniels (R-Bartlesville) says there's been a 6% price markup in grocery stores and at the gas pump for 76 years.

It's called the Unfair Sales Act.

"Government shouldn't be telling businesses what price to put on their goods," State Sen. Daniels said.
